Work in Sweden

In Sweden, dental practitioners have an exclusive right to practise their profession, and dental practitioner is a protected professional title. This means that only a person who holds a licence to practise is allowed to use the title or exercise the profession.

The licence to practise also entails a responsibility to have sufficient knowledge of the Swedish language and to be familiar with Swedish legislation in your field. Read more about getting a Swedish license to practise here.

As a dentist, you lead the work at the dental clinic and work closely with other members of the dental care team thus skills in leadership are necessary. As a dentist, you can choose to work within private practice (either as self-employed or as an employee) or work within the public sector at a clinic of the Swedish Public Dental Service (Folktandvården).
